Memorial/Celebration of the Life of Svetlana Zylin at Theatre Passe
Muraille on October 7, 2002: 7:30 p.m.
Svetlana Zylin had a long, distinguished career in the theatre.
Beginning with the sensational launch of the Women's Theatre Cooperative
in Vancouver in the 1970s to her final job as Arts Officer at the
Manitoba Arts Council, her contribution was phenomenal as director,
producer, provocateur. She was respected for her enormous contribution
to play development: during her tenure as Artistic Director at
Playwrights' Workshop, in Mulgrave, N.S. at the Road Coop, in the Yukon
and points between as well as at Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille and
the Theatre Centre. Later, she turned to writing with the smart and
sassy Destruction of Eve. Beloved by many, she was legendary for her
great style and innovation as artist and teacher (Concordia, York's
Glendon College). Most fullfilled while in production, she loved her
years hosting the Ritz Cafe...so join us for a last commemorative cafe.
There will be memories shared, songs sung, and her life and
accomplishments celebrated.
