The Dick's a Dame is a hilarious comedy about a female detective in 1946
Toronto.
The show originally performed at the 2001 Toronto Fringe Festival to
enormous success. It was one of the highest grossing productions of the
Fringe that year and it was dubbed by Now Magazine as one of the top
ensembles of that year's Festival.
The Dick's a Dame is a very funny gender-bending theatrical twist on
film noir classics, and is rife with snappy dialogue, metaphorical
ramblings, mood lighting, stock noir characters and quick character
changes.
Featuring....Jane Moffat, Cheryl McNamara, Mark Brownell, David Fraser
and Stephen Reich. Directed by Dora Nominated director Sue Miner, set
and costumes by Nina Okens, lighting by Kim Purtell and stage management
by Sandy Plunkett.
"Showing an intimate knowledge of the genre and a gift for comedy,
Moffat & McNamara sling the slang faster than the lunch special at
Fran's. Director Sue Miner's cheeky staging and breakneck pacing
encourage her excellent cast to go over the top farther and faster than
a GI with the runs at Iwo Jima." Don Mosley, Eye Weekly
"...this parody of hard-boiled 1940s detective stories and films is
staged to perfection." Glenn Sumi, Now Magazine
