Director of Development for BirdLand Theatre

Birdland Theatre is a non-profit Toronto-based performing arts company
committed to ensemble collaboration through its work with professional
artists, sponsors and the community. We promote the art of live theatre
through dynamic productions, intensive actor training and outreach
programs. BirdLand Theatre focuses on the Canadian interpretations of
modern classics. Upcoming production is a Canadian premiere of Arthur
Miller's The Ride Down Mount Morgan at Berkeley Street Downstairs in
March 2004. We engage Equity members under CTA.
The Director of Development is responsible for assisting the Board of
Directors in planning, implementing and evaluating all fundraising
objectives of BirdLand Theatre Inc. This role involves acting as a staff
liaison for the Board's fundraising activities. The Director of
Development will participate in the development and execution of a
comprehensive fundraising plan for the Theatre's future, with emphasis
on securing new areas of financial support for the Theatre from the
corporate, individual, and community sectors.
Description of Duties:
Job duties for the position of the Director of Development are to
include, but not limited to:
* Secure new sponsorship for all fundraising aspects in conjunction
with the Board of Directors, and in consideration of the annually
approved Theatre budget;
* Responsible for researching and executing all grants applications
* Maintain the Donor Benefit Program;
* Manage and maintain the corporate and private donor mailing lists and
database system
* Develop, implement and maintain a Group Sales Program for block sales
of tickets for each performance.
Skills Required:
$ Excellent communications skills;
$ Interpersonal and organizational skills;
$ Must be able to work well independently and also in a team
environment; and
$ Proven successful experience in development and implementation of
fundraising programs for one or more non-profit organizations.
