GROLIER 128  IS STILL SEEKING THE FOLLOWING for its FRINGE PRODUCTION of
Janet Banks' RICE PUDDING, directed by Lorne Hiro

FRED MYERS - MALE.  CAUCASIAN.  MUST BE ABLE TO PLAY OVER 50.  SALT AND
PEPPER HAIR.  CHARACTER IS ORIGINALLY FROM NEWFOUNDLAND (may require a
slight accent).  THINK ERIC PETERSON'S CHARACTER IN "CORNER GAS" OR
CARROLL O'CONNOR'S ARCHIE BUNKER.  A real "Popeye the sailor man" type;
although he is old, he has the energy of a pit-bull and normally stands
straight and proud.  Has been placed in a home against his will.  Always
causes trouble and never obeys the rules.  Raids the kitchen to eat what
he wants.  Works at a carwash for extra cash and gambles it to increase
his earnings.  Hopes to make enough to get a car and run away from this
"God-forsaken place."

EQUITY AND NON-EQUITY MAY APPLY. Equity members cast in this production
will participate under the terms of the Equity/Fringe Waiver.  All
profits from the show will be split equally among the collective.

SYNOPSIS:  Amy's a sixteen-year-old straight A student who thinks she's
being punished by her mother because she's into Eminem music and isn't
"socially aware" enough.  She's forced to volunteer at a nursing home
where they have assigned her kitchen detail.  As if things aren't bad
enough, she then has to deal with an over-compassionate nurse who wants
to be like a surrogate grandmother and a trouble-making, independent,
crotchety old man who keeps raiding the kitchen and ranting about how
his daughter forced him to live there in order to be out of her hair.
Enough "social awareness" for you Amy?

Auditioner should prepare a 2 minute monologue and be prepared for a
cold read from the play.  A copy of RICE PUDDING can be accessed on the
web if auditioner has an e-mail address.  

AUDITION DATE:  Wednesday, April 28, between 2pm -7pm at Equity
Showcase. 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:  Tue., April 27 at NOON.
