Sir Wilfred Grenfell College is a small (1300 students) Liberal Arts and Science institution and the Corner Brook campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Memorial is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and, as the Province's only university, plays an integral role in the educational and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador through offering diverse graduate and undergraduate programmes to almost 17,000 students.
At Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, our emphasis is on a small-class environment and teaching excellence in distinctive multi- and interdisciplinary degree programmes with four-year Bachelor's degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Science, and Nursing.
Corner Brook (population 22,000) is a safe and friendly city with excellent recreational and cultural facilities, situated in an area of great natural beauty, overlooking the Bay of Islands and affording a spectacular view of the Blomidon Mountains. The City is some 80 kilometres from Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and 10 kilometres from Marble Mountain, one of Eastern Canada's premier downhill ski resorts.
In the 2005 - 2006 academic year Sir Wilfred Grenfell College has academic positions available in Theatre and Visual Arts.
A one-semester sabbatical replacement position in Acting/Directing beginning September 1, 2005. The successful candidate will teach acting in any two years of a four year BFA degree program, and will direct or act in a Departmental production. The successful candidate will have significant professional experience and be able to demonstrate an ability to teach at the university level. An MFA (Theatre) degree or equivalent is preferred but not required.
8 ½ month term appointment - Stagecraft: The candidate will serve as resident designer with a strong emphasis on costumes. Expertise in technical theatre is required particularly in the areas of props and costumes. The successful candidate will teach these elements across all four years of the undergraduate Stagecraft stream in both the Studio courses and as a supervisor in the Production courses (Wardrobe). As a designer, the candidate will be responsible for designing costumes or sets/costumes in some combination for 2 to 3 of the main stage shows each semester. Experience teaching at the university level and a strong resume from the professional theatre are required. For all positions salary and rank will reflect qualifications and experience in accordance with the Collective Agreement governing faculty at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
