Employment Opportunity: Safe Stages Project Coordinator

Theatre Alberta is currently seeking applications for the position of
Safe Stages Project Coordinator.  This is a flexible (full- or
part-time) contract position commencing June 30, 2005 and finishing no
later than September 30, 2006.
Salary: Negotiable; will not exceed $20,000 and will be commensurate
with availability/schedule. Closing date for applications: June 6, 2005

Safe Stages is a new health and safety initiative by Theatre Alberta
with significant contribution from members of Alberta's technical
theatre community.

Duties of the Project Coordinator will include:
- research, writing, and editing of a comprehensive document to be
distributed to all theatres, performance venues, schools, and
technicians in Alberta; this document will reference and comply with the
Alberta Labour Code (support will be provided by Alberta Human Resources
& Employment, Workplace Policy & Standards) and will expansively
document best practices in the industry
- coordination and administration of, and communication with, steering-
and sub-committees for Safe Stages (members of committees include
leading production managers and technical directors from across the
province, representing all levels of theatre production from
professional to community to educational, as well as representatives
from union locals and other professional organizations)
- liaison with interested and partnering government departments
- funding programs research and preparation of grant applications
- other appropriate duties

Applicants must have completed a post-secondary technical theatre or
stage management degree or diploma program and/or have equivalent
experience in a variety of theatrical environments.  The ideal candidate
will have a minimum of two years professional experience in the
technical theatre industry. 

The successful applicant will have: superior written/oral communication
and organizational skills; a passion for detail; the ability to work
both independently and on teams; and a familiarity with existing theatre
health and safety initiatives and insurance issues.

Duties will be split between the Theatre Alberta office and the
coordinator's home office (or usual place of employment if appropriate).
This position will be largely autonomous and will report directly to
Marie Gynane-Willis, Executive Director of Theatre Alberta.

Above terms are negotiable; we are willing to be flexible in order to
find the right candidate for this unique contract.
