Persephone Productions presents Spring Awakening, by Frank Wedekind, in
a new version by Ted Hughes. November 10-20. Directed by Gabrielle
Soskin. At Theatre La Chapelle, 3700 St. Dominique, box office: 843-7738
Set in a small town in Germany, Spring Awakening charts the journey of
the sexual awakening and subsequent confusion of a group of young
adolescents growing up in the midst of a strict Victorian society. At
once daring, passionately emotional and deeply moving, the play is
filled with biting humour and sexual revelation. It bursts with erotic
energy and explores themes that are still startlingly pertinent today.
