JOB - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - CALGARY

Alberta Theatre Projects is inviting applications for the position of
Artistic Director.

Alberta Theatre Projects (ATP) is looking for a new Artistic Director
who will define and inspire ATP's artistic vision and provide
outstanding leadership for the company.
This visionary Artistic Director will light up ATP's stages with
extraordinary and vital Canadian and contemporary theatre that engages
Calgary audiences while making contributions of lasting and national
significance to the Canadian repertoire of new plays.
The Artistic Director will be responsible for season programming that
includes five contemporary mainstage productions and the nationally
acclaimed Enbridge PlayRites Festival of New Canadian plays.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
Leadership skills
A leader who is a proven developer of people as well as plays and has
infectious enthusiasm and exceptional communication skills.
Artistic leadership
A seasoned and respected theatre artist with significant experience
selecting and/or directing work that resonates with audiences.  They
will also have first hand experience in new play development and a
commitment to the creation of new Canadian work.  
Business skills
An experienced manager with demonstrated abilities in strategic
planning, fiscal responsibility, and experience with a governance
focused Board of Directors.
This is a challenging, full-time, position that will begin in the summer
of 2009.  The incoming Artistic Director will plan his/her first season
for 2010/2011 after overseeing the 2009-2010 season selected by the
outgoing Artistic Director.
BACKGROUND

ATP is based in Calgary and is currently celebrating its 36th season.
The company produces plays relevant to contemporary life.  All of the
work is intended to be entertaining and a celebration of Canadian
theatrical talent.  ATP showcases recent Canadian and international
successes and is a national center for the development of new Canadian
plays through our two flagship events the Enbridge playRites Festival of
New Canadian Plays and The Banff Playwrights' Colony.  Through its
Lifelong Education and Growth for Artists, Community and Youth Program
(LEGACY) ATP strives to leave a legacy in the community.  While
committed to the artistic vision, the company is also committed to
maintaining a balanced fiscal position and employing sound management
practices. 

ATP has an annual operating budget of $4 million and an average annual
attendance of 35,000 audience members.  The company is in excellent
financial condition having enjoyed surpluses for the last 6 fiscal
years.  ATP employs eighteen full time staff, approximately 85 artists
seasonally and over 200 casual workers throughout the year.  At its full
capacity, the Board of Directors numbers 18 members.
