Süssel - (elderly) - lead role - elegant, cultured, fiery, Jewish Young Süssel - (age 15 to age 45) - impetuous, fearless, privileged, intelligent Max (& Dead Body) - (from age 15 to age 45) - shy, extremely intelligent, socially inept, loyal Ileana (& Ludmilla Bunin, Dead Body, Camp Prisoner) - (age range: 30 to 45) - sensual & care-free to military & sexually aggressive Marusja (& Manole's Wife, Camp Grisha, Helen) - (age: mid 20s to mid 30s) - timid & repressed to courageous & spiritual Süssel's Mother (& Camp Prisoner) - (from age 30 to age 50) - elegant, privileged, powerful, Jewish Süssel's Father (& Master Manole, Waiter, Camp Prisoner, German Soldier, Czech Man) - (from age 35 to age 55) - privileged, arrogant, proud Felix (& Romanian Villager, Sergei, Dmitry, Young Man, SS Man, Joey, Grisha) - (age: 20s) -  charming & ambitious to brutal to heroic German Lover (& Romanian Villager, Soviet Army Officer, Dead Body, Sleeping Officer, Dr. Hermann Bauer, German Soldier, Romainian Policeman, Old Blind Doctor) - (age: 40s) - romantic & educated to tortured & spiritual

Some characters will be required to sing in German.  Young Süssel may need to shave her head.
