The membership, Council and staff of Canadian Actors' Equity Association
were saddened to hear the Vancouver Playhouse theatre announce its
closure effective Saturday, March 10, 2012. The Playhouse has made an
invaluable contribution to Canadian theatre history and to the careers
of many Equity members over its 49-year plus existence. Many of the 200
contract positions (annually) that will be cut as a result of the
decision to close will be lost opportunities for Equity members. The
impact of the theatre's closure will be keenly felt by the Vancouver and
British Columbia membership of Equity.

Equity's first priority is to review our engagement contract files and
security holdings and to confirm with the Theatre if there are any
outstanding obligations (fees, payments, or benefits) owing to our
members. Any Equity member with an existing or future Vancouver
Playhouse engagement contract, or with questions regarding the theatre's
closure, should contact  should contact  Business Representative
