Eastern Front Theatre and Home First Productions are holding auditions for the world premiere of Mary Vingoe's new play, "Refuge." The play tells the story of a former soldier from Eritrea who arrives in Canada without papers, seeking refugee status. Seen through the eyes of the couple that take him in and the lawyer who represents him, the play is an examination of Canada's current immigration system.
Rehearsals start Sept. 10, 2013, with a one week run, Oct. 1-6, 2013.
Character Breakdown
THE INTERVIEWER - Female, 30-60, CBC journalist
PAMEL ROSS - Female, 35-45, mixed race, volunteer at a refugee clinic, Canadian born, educated
SUDI AL FAYED - Female, 40-60, recent refugee from Eritrea, East Africa, speaks very basic English
ALLAN ROSS - Male, 35-45, PAMEL¹S husband, an artist, Canadian born
MEBRAHTU - Male, 30-60, Eritrean, been in Canada for 20 years, translator at the Clinic, well educated
Please submit photo and resume electronically. Only those actors we wish to see will be contacted for an audition. Sides will be provided at that time. If Mary Vingoe is not familiar with your work you will also be asked to prepare a contemporary monologue no more than two minutes in length.
Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the audition.
