MUSICAL WORKS: A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING NEW MUSICAL THEATRE
After five successful years of programming at Toronto's SummerWorks Festival, Musical Works in Concert is teaming up with Theatre 20 to present a weekend-long Festival of three new Canadian musicals.
The Musical Works in Concert Festival will be presented by Musical Works and Theatre 20 with a full weekend of shows from August 20-23rd.
In a world where Comic books meet Pleasantville meet The Twilight Zone...and there's music.
Seeking strong singers, strong actors and big imaginations.
Monica: Female. Alto/ High Belt. Brunette. Mid 20's-mid 30's to play teenager. Ambitious. Confident. Cultured. Very intelligent. Likes to think of herself as a rebel. Has a warm heart but her hunger for success overrides her moral sense. Think Veronica Lodge meets Reese Witherspoon in Pleasantville.
Charlie: Male. Character Voice Tenor. Fair-haired. Mid 20's-mid 30's to play teens. Loveable and adored by many. Awkward. Lazy. Has good intentions but has been blissfully catered to throughout his entire life therefore relating to those less fortunate is a challenge. Think a hippie version of Archie Andrews.
Cliff: Male. Baritone/Tenor. Dark hair. Mid 20's-mid 30's to play late teens. Tall, dark and handsome. A ladies man. Out-of-date sense of humour. Craves a change to his life but lacks guidance and direction. Think Reggie Mantle meets Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club.
Ms. Dundy: Female. Alto. 50's-60's Warm. Observant. Well spoken. Respects tradition and authority. Has a secret. Think Miss Grundy meets Glenn Close in Damages.
Mr. Sunnyhive: Male. Low Baritone. 50-60's. An authority figure. Connects with the youth. A creature of habit. Rarely asks questions. Think Mr. Weatherbee meets William H. Macy in Pleasantville.
Random Guy: Male. Tenor to a high A. Plays characters that range from 16-40. An introvert. A chameleon. An optimist and a dreamer but is quickly losing hope. Has a secret. Think the guy you see in the background of every comic strip. Or Jeff Daniels from Pleasantville.
Mary-Jane: Female. Mezzo Soprano. 20's-30's to play teens. Hard-working. Smart. Enjoys sarcasm. Always seen with Lucy. Wants to advance her position in Sunnydale. Think Valerie from Josie and the Pussycat Dolls meets Lacey Charbert in Mean Girls.
Lucy: Female. Mezzo Soprano. 20's-30's to play teens. Loyal. Bubbly. Has a strong sense of "right" and "wrong". Adores Mary-Jane. Think Melody from Josie and the Pussycat Dolls meets Amanda Seyfried in Mean Girls.
