FACTORY THEATRE
SHOW: FITZ HAPPENS! A MEGAMUSICAL FOR FIVE ACTORS
WRITTEN AND COMPOSED BY: Mark Weatherley
MUSICAL WORKS: A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING NEW MUSICAL THEATRE
After five successful years of programming at Toronto's SummerWorks Festival, Musical Works in Concert is teaming up with Theatre 20 to present a weekend-long Festival of three new Canadian musicals.
Synopsis: Set in 1899 this is a raucous musical comedy about an irresponsible young Englishman banished to the Canadian West who finds himself forced to become the Mountie in a small town on the eve of an invasion by a bunch of murderous thugs. Through audacious cunning, and a touch of larceny, he saves the day, gets the girl and sings a lot.
(All actors play multiple parts of either gender/5 actors in total)
CASTING:
FITZ-Male early to mid twenties - Rock baritone/tenor
This is our hero. A work-shirking youngest son of English gentry. Charming, handsome, funny, and loveable, but also devious and larcenous. Rather like the smart version of the Prince (Hugh Laurie) in the English series Blackadder. If you don't get the reference youtube it. You can thank me later. Should be comfortable in a variety of musical styles: rock, pop, country, as well as good ole MT. Plausible plummy English accent a must, as is decent comedic abilities.
LOUISA- Female twenties - Mezzo Soprano
This actor mainly plays Louisa, a buckskinned, sharp shooter, used to a world where men are men and women are more so. She is smart and brave with a very dry sense of humour. Frank, and straight forward she tries unsuccessfully to hide her soft side, and ultimately falls for Fitz.
Ideally, each of the actors can play one or more instruments.
To submit, please send a picture and resume to musicalworksinconcert at gmail.com, with both FITZ HAPPENS and the character you are auditioning for in the subject header.
Theatre20 is the engager for this production.
