Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
Alley Theatre actively engages diverse artists in regards to gender,
orientation, ethnicity, and ability, and acknowledges that it produces its
work on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples.

Additional information:
Seeking diverse performers of all ages, genders, ethnicities, orientations,
and abilities to form the core six-person ensemble in THE RIDICULOUS
DARKNESS, a multi-award winning radio play by Wolfram Lotz, adapted to the
stage by Daniel Arnold and directed by Marisa Emma Smith. This is a bold,
cheeky, and irreverent modern mash-up of Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse
Now, in which two soldiers journey into the heart of Afghanistan to find -
and liquidate - a fellow soldier who has gone rogue. Along the way, they
encounter various peoples and local communities, and the play becomes an
earnest - albeit strange - exploration of "otherness".

In addition to the core six-person ensemble, the production will involve and
celebrate as many as six local community groups and organizations.

Contract: Independent Theatre Agreement; Company Category not yet determined
Rehearsals: October 17 - Nov 10, 2017
Production: Nov 11 - 19, 2017
Location: The Annex Theatre, downtown Vancouver
Opening Night will feature an event to honor Remembrance Day.
The production will close, appropriately, on the United Nations-sanctioned
"World Toilet Day".
