Play Synopsis:
When anti-Muslim graffiti targets hijab-wearing Fatima, her strict parents
have her transferred to a new high school. Socially disconnected, she finds
an unlikely friend in Jorah, a boy with a reputation for anger issues. As
friendship blossoms into romance, they are forced to confront stereotypes,
boundaries, and the consequences of their actions. Thought-provoking,
comedic, and sometimes dark, Jabber invites audiences to examine their own
assumptions and expectations of others, and to reflect on how these impact
their relationships.
Character Breakdown:
Fatima, a teen girl. In grade 10. Relatively recently arrived immigrant from
Egypt who wears a Hijab. Great sense of humour. Smart and quick witted.
Jorah, a teen boy. In grade 10. The guy at school that people are a little
afraid of. There are lots of rumours about him and he gets in trouble a lot
for testing authority. Kind of a jerk but also kind of funny and smart.
Mr. Evans, the thirty-four year old school counselor. Students call him Mr.
E and pretty much like him He's the 'cool' counselor.
This is a local and British Columbia high school tour. Class 4 driver’s
license is an asset. All Artists will be required to travel.
