Hello everyone,

I am looking for information about tree spading. As
background, there is a large development planned for Thunder Bay which will
involve new construction in an area with trees that were planted approximately
25 years ago. About 150 trees are affected (a mix of white spruce, scots pine,
white birch, green ash, and mountain ash). It is hoped that most of them can be
saved by spading them, but it is unclear what size (dbh? caliper?) of tree can
be spaded with some degree of success. What are expected survival rates? Are
there species of tree that fare better when spaded? What kind of costs are to be
expected? What kind of watering/ soil amendment/ fertilizer/ hormone treatments
might be needed? Are there any contractors that would be able to do this work
that come with a good recommendation? Any information on the subject would be
welcome.
