Two Canadians, both extremely active in urban forestry in Canada and associated with Tree Canada were amongst seven in the world that received the coveted True Professionals of Arboriculture award at the recent International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) meeting in Rhode Island, U.S. Both were recognized for their significant contribution to the profession of caring and maintaining trees.

Gerard Fournier has been in the tree care business for many years and is the owner of For Trees Co. a Didsbury, Alberta arboricultural company and 30 acre tree farm. A longtime certified tree worker and arborist and part time lecturer at numerous colleges, Gerard is one of the few Board Certified Master Arborists with the International Society of Arboriculture (and probably the only one with a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Calgary). Gerard is a regular on the radio and gives frequent tours of his property for local colleges and high schools. We are extremely proud that Gerard is Tree Canada's Community Adviser for southern Alberta.

Philip van Wassenaer is well known in the urban forest/arboricultural worlds. President of Urban Forest Innovations of Mississauga, Ontario, Philip is indeed a born innovator and a professional who consistently strives for perfection. A former President of the Ontario Urban Forest Council and founder of the Ontario Heritage Tree Alliance, Philip travels extensively giving lectures, workshops and conferences. Philip co-chaired Tree Canada's 5th Canadian Urban Forest Conference in Markham in 2002, a groundbreaking conference that led to the inclusion for urban forests in the National Forest Strategy, the Canadian Urban Forest Strategy and the Canadian Urban Forest Network.

On behalf of the Chair of Tree Canada, Dorothy Dobbie and all the members of our Board, we wish to congratulate these True Professionals who do both Canada and Tree Canada very proud! Thank you for caring so much about trees and thank you for advancing urban forestry in Canada!

- Michael Rosen, President, Tree Canada
