Our environment is full of toxic plants - some native some not native. I think one has to be careful about using poisonous plants but one also needs to be reasonable. Look at the list of plants from the government of Canada - alfalfa, alsike clover, crocus, avocado, black cherry, black-eyed susan, blue cohosh, Canada yew, milkweed, privet, vetch, garlic, May-apple to list a few.
