CUFC9 "Water, Trees and Communities" - register today!

(February 5, 2010, Truro, N.S.) Register now for the 9th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC9) in Truro, Nova Scotia at www.cufc9.ca<http://www.cufc9.ca>. The conference, organized by the Town of Truro and Tree Canada, takes place October 5-7, 2010. It will bring hundreds of arborists, foresters, city planners, environmentalists and engineers together to discuss and share knowledge under the theme of "Water, Trees and Communities." Trees are being increasingly recognized as playing an important role in "green infrastructure" by regulating the hydrologic cycle and protecting municipal drinking water supplies.
Since 1993, the CUFC has been hosted by Tree Canada and a joint municipality including Winnipeg, Halifax, Windsor, Calgary, York Region, Kelowna, Quebec City and Strathcona County.

About Truro
Located 45 minutes north of Halifax's international airport, Truro fits the description of a true "tree" town - it is one of the few Atlantic communities to employ full time staff dedicated to its urban forest; the 400 hectare Victoria Park is managed to protect Truro's water supply; an extensive hemlock and red spruce forest is found downtown; and homeowners receive cash rebates for planting trees on their property.

(Le 5 février 2010, Truro, N.-É.) Vous pouvez maintenant vous inscrire à la 9e Conférence canadienne sur la forêt urbaine (CCFU) qui se déroulera à Truro, Nouvelle-Écosse, en visitant www.cufc9.ca<http://www.cufc9.ca> (en anglais seulement). La conférence, organisée par la ville de Truro et Arbres Canada, aura lieu du 5 au 7 octobre 2010. Elle rassemblera des centaines d'arboristes, forestiers, planificateurs urbains, environnementalistes et ingénieurs pour discuter et partager des connaissances sous le thème de « L'eau, les arbres et les collectivités ». On reconnaît de plus en plus le rôle important des arbres dans « l'infrastructure verte » parce qu'ils régularisent le cycle hydrologique et protègent l'approvisionnement de l'eau potable des municipalités.

Depuis 1993, la CCFU a été organisée conjointement par Arbres Canada et une municipalité, dont Winnipeg, Halifax, Windsor, Calgary, région de York, Kelowna, ville de Québec et Strathcona County.

Situé à 45 minutes au nord de l'aéroport international de Halifax, Truro exemplifie la vraie « ville forestière » puisque c'est une des rares collectivités de l'Atlantique à avoir des employés à temps plein qui prennent soin de la forêt urbaine. Le parc Victoria de 400 hectares est géré afin de protéger l'approvisionnement en eau de Truro. On retrouve une vaste forêt de pruches et d'épinettes rouges au centre-ville et les propriétaires fonciers reçoivent une remise en espèces pour la plantation d'arbres sur leur propriété.
