Be sure to attend the upcoming information and planning workshops and
register before November 12th if you have not already!
The City of Thunder Bay is proud to be organizing the ‘Planning for
Emerald Ash Borer in Northwestern Ontario’ workshops on behalf of Ontario
Ministry of Natural Resources.
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a major economic and environmental threat that
has killed more than 20 million ash trees in Ontario. EAB’s rapid spread
has brought it as close to Northwestern Ontario (NWO) as Sault Saint
Marie, ON and St Paul, MN. These workshops have two primary objectives
which are to educate participants about invasive pests, including EAB,
with an emphasis on detection and prevention, and begin the process of
developing a coordinated strategy for the management of EAB in NWO.
We invite you to attend one of two workshop options:
1) The Public Information Session held from 7pm-8:30pm on November 17
th at the Oliver Rd. Community Center (no registration required)
2) The Full Day Planning and Education Workshop 7:30am-5pm, November
18th at the Nor’Wester Best Western Hotel.
The morning will focus on insect education and identification. The
afternoon will focus on developing a management strategy for Emerald Ash
Borer in Northwestern Ontario. The afternoon will build upon the morning
sessions and we highly recommend that those interested in the afternoon
session attend the full day.
We are pleased to announce that all workshops are of no cost! Please
choose the workshop option that best suits your interests. Registrations
must be received by November 12th.
These workshops will present the province’s top experts in the field of
invasive species management and we look forward to the wealth of knowledge
our speakers will bring to Northwestern Ontario.
We request that you post and distribute this information to your
associated organizations and contacts, and subsequently apologize for any
cross distribution.
Sincerely,
Rena Viehbeck
