When: Wednesday, February 16, 2011
Where: Edmonton, Alberta
Why attend??:
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a small but very destructive exotic beetle from Asia that threatens ash trees grown in cities and in rural areas of Alberta. Hamilton, a city already devastated with this insect may be required to spend $36 million over the next 10 year to deal with EAB. It is expected to become established in Alberta, the question is when? Together we can work to slow the spread of EAB!
We need your input and feedback on the following items:
Objectives of the EAB Forum:
1. Discuss the scope and implications of EAB establishment in Alberta.
2. Explore the development of an 'Alberta-specific' strategy to delay the establishment of EAB in our province.
3. Identify whether a strategy with shared ownership for EAB management is required in Alberta.
What will be covered:
This one day Forum will bring the 'Experts in this field' to you. They will speak on the history of introduction into North America, EAB biology, latest research, survey tools for detection, regulatory aspects to control spread within Canada, and a variety of perspectives from various cities and Alberta's nursery industry. In the afternoon, we will have smaller group discussions to get your feedback on the three objectives listed above.
Cost: no cost to attend!
