[CANUFNET] Urban Forest / Emerald Ash Borer Resolution

Hello

I have seen the increasing concern over government support for urban
forests. But the reality is there is a lack of support or far sighted
management for forests in general, unless there is an economic basis for
their management as in crown forest management.

In many municipalities in Ontario, since the amalgamation of towns and
rural townships into single municipalities, the urban forest is a mosaic
of individual yard and street trees, larger groves of trees and actual
forests in parks and natural areas - owned by individuals and the
public.

In a landscape that is a mosaic of urban, private and crown forests, it
seems that the private forests, which can be a significant part of the
land even in NW Ontario are being left out.

Does this resolution help those private forests in between what is
recognised as urban vs crown?

Hello Everyone,
The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA), which comprises
36 municipalities, passed unanimously the resolution "A Federal and
Provincial Role in Urban Forestry" at their recent AGM. For your
information, I have attached the letter and resolution sent to NOMA by
the Northwestern Ontario Emerald Ash Borer Task Force.
