Topping is bad…pollarding is not topping….some older trees may need to be crown reduced in height in order to retain them…it depends.
But in general, no municipality we have worked for have any ‘tree height restriction’ policies…

I’ve seen thousands of pollarded silver maples in Toronto and Chatham that were done systematically over many years. Tops and sides. Not done much in the last 20 years or so since we started telling people that topping was bad.

Okay everyone, here’s one that I have never come across before. Our corporate media person had someone contact them to see if we in Saskatoon were going to be doing anything about restricting the height of trees in our city. They claim that some municipalities are already doing this. I have never heard of this. Has anyone out there heard of this? I’d really like to know and some of the history behind this.
