Job Description

 

The City of Surrey's Natural Areas team has two temporary full-time
field-based positions available to assist with the restoration of
Surrey's natural area parks.  

 

The Natural Areas Team is responsible for protecting and preserving the
health and integrity of park natural areas by performing a wide variety
of programs including, but not limited to, trail management, vegetation
management, fauna management, hazard tree management and fire
management.  

 

Position 1:  Field Crew Member                               April 15 -
November 30, 2013 

Position 2:  Field Crew Lead
Early march - November 30, 2013

 

Both positions are field based and duties will include:

*         Trail maintenance

*         Planting maintenance (weeding/brushing)

*         Invasive plant removal

*         Planting native trees and shrubs

 

Qualifications

*         Be willing and able to perform repetitive, physical work in
all weather 

*         Experience with power tools (brush saw, hedge trimmer, chain
saw)

*         Demonstrated ability to ID native plants

*         Effective communication skills

*         Have a valid, unrestricted BC Driver's License

*         Have valid Level 1 First Aid Certification (or willingness to
obtain) 

 

Additional Qualifications for Field Crew Leader

*         Supervisory experience: preference for in a field setting

*         Ability to ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient
manner 

 

Both positions require the applicant to have completed Grade 12,
supplemented by some post-secondary education in Biology, Environmental
Science or Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Geography or
related discipline.  The completion of a criminal record check will be
required as a condition of employment.

 

Hours of work for the position are either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday -
Friday from 6.30am - 5.00pm (4 x 10 shift).
