Go West: Does your municipality want to host the next CUFC in 2018?

(Ottawa, ON – May 3, 2016) Tree Canada, Canada’s national tree organization is seeking proposals by Western municipalities (Manitoba westward) to host the 13th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC) in 2018.

The Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC) is a national, bilingual conference that brings together approximately 350 foresters, urban planners, policy makers and municipal experts to develop new strategies and to promote techniques to preserve and manage urban forests in Canada. With over 80% of Canadians living in cities, trees play a significant role in providing environmental and psychological benefits to all. The conference is also an ideal opportunity for municipalities to profile the urban forests in their communities.
For applications to be evaluated, municipalities should submit a proposal demonstrating:

  *   Urban forest program history and commitment
  *   Suggested themes for the conference and an outline identifying milestones and timelines
  *   Highlights for a preliminary budget (if possible)
  *   Potential collaborators
  *   Accessibility to airports and other transportation
  *   Venue choice and willingness to sign a hotel agreement
  *   Willingness to Co-Chair the Organizing Committee with Tree Canada
  *   Proof of backing of Council and staff (i.e. letter of support)
  *   Strong community involvement and field tour suggestions
  *   Willingness to allow 50% of the profits to go towards a local legacy project, and 50% of the profits to be returned to Tree Canada
Tree Canada, the host organization of the conference will provide:

  *   Guidance and active participation on the Organizing Committee
  *   Registration of the conference web domain name
  *   Use of Tree Canada and CUFC logos
  *   Communications and promotion with press releases and notices
  *   Leadership in the Awards presentation (the “Gala”) and in the Canadian Urban Forest Strategy workshop which must be incorporated into the Program content of the Conference
Proposals will be accepted until August 1st, 2016. Proposals should be a maximum of five pages. An organizational manual is available upon request. The winner will be announced at the upcoming CUFC 2016 in Laval, QC, on September 28, 2016.

(Ottawa ON – Le 3 mai 2014) Arbres Canada, l’organisme national de plantation d’arbres au Canada, demande aux municipalités de l’ouest du pays (du Manitoba en allant vers l’ouest) de soumettre des propositions pour accueillir la 13e Conférence canadienne sur la forêt urbaine (CCFU) en 2018.
La Conférence canadienne sur la forêt urbaine (CCFU) est une conférence nationale bilingue qui rassemble quelque 350 forestiers, planificateurs urbains, élaborateurs de politiques et spécialistes municipaux pour formuler de nouvelles stratégies et promouvoir des techniques visant à préserver et à gérer les forêts urbaines du pays. Puisque plus de 80 % des Canadiens vivent dans des villes, les arbres jouent un rôle important en fournissant des bienfaits environnementaux et psychologiques à tous. Cette conférence offre aussi la chance aux municipalités de faire connaître les forêts urbaines dans leurs collectivités.

Si une municipalité est intéressée à accueillir la conférence, elle doit soumettre une proposition qui démontre ce qui suit :

  *   Antécédents et engagement en matière de foresterie urbaine
  *   Thèmes suggérés pour la conférence et aperçu qui identifie les points marquants et les échéances
  *   Faits saillants pour un budget préliminaire (si possible)
  *   Collaborateurs potentiels
  *   Proximité d’un aéroport important et d’autres modes de transport
  *   Choix de l’emplacement et consentement à signer une entente avec l’hôtel
  *   Consentement à coprésider le comité organisateur avec Arbres Canada
  *   Preuve de l’appui du conseil et du personnel (comme une lettre d’appui)
  *   Solide participation communautaire et suggestions d’excursions
  *   Agrément que 50 % des profits soient versés à un projet commémoratif local et que l’autre 50 % des profits soient remis à Arbres Canada
Arbres Canada, l’organisme d’accueil de la conférence, fournira ce qui suit :

  *   Conseils et participation active au comité organisateur
  *   Inscription du nom de domaine Web de la conférence et gabarit du site Web
  *   Utilisation des logos d’Arbres Canada et de la CCFU
  *   Communications et promotion avec des communiqués de presse et des avis
  *   Leadership dans la présentation de prix (le « gala ») et les ateliers de la Stratégie canadienne sur la forêt urbaine qui devraient être incorporés dans le contenu de la conférence
Les propositions seront acceptées jusqu’au 1er août 2016. Les propositions ne devraient pas dépasser cinq pages. Un manuel sur l’organisation de la conférence peut être consulté sur demande. La municipalité gagnante sera annoncée le 28 septembre 2016 lors de la CCFU 2016 qui aura lieu à Laval (Québec).
