[CANUFNET] volume of wood chips from ash trees

Hey Martha, be cautious in using forestry charts and log weights to
determine volumes of urban forestry trees. The log of the tree is only
part of the total weight.

You are best to talk with your technicians and get an idea of how much of a
truck box your average tree fills up when chipped, that will give you a
volume. Average bucket truck boxes are 8 cubic metres.

As for weight, green chips are usually close to 2.5 cubic metres per tonne
(1000kg). Dry chips (20%MC) are close to 4 cubic metres per tonne.

Yes the wood chipper will affect the bulk density but not that much given
that most urban tree removal is done by similar machines.

Precision with estimating chip volumes and weights is not possible!

Vince
