Hi John,

To answer your question, I've seen a few tools on restoring river margins and creating riparian buffers in my region.

There is a whole website devoted to this process in Quebec, including plant selection at banderiveraine.org

This page includes search engines for plant selection

http://banderiveraine.org/choisir-les-vegetaux/

<http://banderiveraine.org/choisir-les-vegetaux/>Yes I am aware it's all in French but there is a cool life hack for that: if you use GoogleChrome, you can actually right click on the page, and select Translate to English from the drop down menu to get a decent translation from Google - it should be enough to help you navigate the site and see what's available (see screen capture image below).

For planting, these tables could be useful for your zone, the plant names are in French, English and Latin but the lists aren't 100% up to date (you may want skip Fraxinus). You can find that here http://www.fihoq.qc.ca/medias/D1.1.5B-1.pdf

I'm pretty sure that you can get this search engine to work using GoogleChromes translate function as well. http://vegetaux.fihoq.com/

For detailed planting specs, it's good to know that the Urban Tree Foundation, in collaboration with Ed Gilman, James Urban, Bryan Kempf and Tyson Carroll have a whole inventory of free, downloadable and modifiable specifications pertaining to tree planting, among all sorts of other work. Check it out http://www.urbantree.org/details_specs.shtml

Good luck with your projet.

Subject: [CANUFNET] Riverwalk tree planting spec's

Hello All.

Hope you are all doing well. I am curious as to what tree planting spec’s are out there regarding tree planting and “ Riverwalk” construction projects?

Is there a particular tree well better suited for areas that have flood potential?

What catchment plantings plans have been used and what distance are they from the construction projects?

Any experiences to share are welcome and appreciated.

Looking forward to any and all insights available?

Many thanks,

John.
