Become part of Tree Cities of the World

Tree Canada is supporting Tree Cities of the World<https://treecitiesoftheworld.org/> an initiative that recognizes greening communities worldwide. Developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Arbor Day Foundation, the goal is to create a robust and diverse network of communities, practitioners, advocates, and scientists who will lead sustainable urban forests practices.
We are proud to be the lead partner in Canada as this supports Tree Canada's goal to bring greater attention to exemplary urban forestry programs in our country. Tree Canada's Canadian Urban Forest Strategy defines urban forestry as "the sustained planning, planting, protection, maintenance, management and care of trees, forests, greenspace along with related resources in and around cities as well as communities for economic, environmental, social, and public health benefits for people."
If you believe your community would be a great addition to this network because of the work you are doing to grow and manage your community trees and forests, getting involved is simple.
The deadline for 2019 applications-the inaugural year of the program-is December 31, 2019.

Arbres Canada appui Tree Cities of the World<https://treecitiesoftheworld.org/>, une initiative qui reconnaît les efforts de verdissement de communautés autour du monde. Développé par l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture et la Fondation Arbor Day, l'objectif est de créer un réseau solide et diversifié de communautés, de praticiens, de défenseurs et de scientifiques qui mèneront des pratiques durables en matière de forêts urbaines.
Nous sommes fiers d'être le partenaire principal au Canada, car cela appuie l'objectif d'Arbres Canada de porter une plus grande attention aux programmes exemplaires de foresterie urbaine dans notre pays. La Stratégie canadienne sur les forêts urbaines d'Arbres Canada définit la foresterie urbaine comme « la planification, la plantation, la protection, l'entretien, la gestion et l'entretien soutenus des arbres, des forêts, des espaces verts ainsi que des ressources connexes dans les collectivités, à des fins économiques, environnementales et sociales. »
