Hi Grace,
We recently teamed up with our Engineering Department to beautify an area that was devoid of any street trees. We removed concrete panels, dug out large pits and installed 40 street trees on both boulevards of a section of road. Additionally, rather than installing standard metal tree grates, we installed cobblestones around the base to provide a hard surface area while maintaining a decorative theme. We prefer to use cobblestones in selective areas to allow for the expansion of the root flare. Please contact me for more information.

Subject: [CANUFNET] tearing up pavement or concrete to plant trees?
Does anyone know of cities or communities that have torn up pavement or concrete, in order to plant more trees where they are needed?
I'd appreciate any links to articles or information.
Thanks,
Grace
