Hello,

I am reaching out for assistance in making sure that an upcoming tree preservation incentives questionnaire for municipal staff in BC reaches as many target participants as possible. If you would like to suggest participants, please do so as soon as possible, since the questionnaire will be emailed starting in early June. Please see below for more information and the link to the survey to suggest participants.

Your help is greatly appreciated,

About - Survey to Suggest Participants and Upcoming Tree Preservation Incentives Questionnaire

This survey is to gather contacts for suggested participants for an up-coming tree preservation incentives questionnaire, part of a UBC capstone project.

Target participants for tree preservation incentives questionnaire: people that work for a municipality in British Columbia with a tree bylaw, involved in planning and application review of development on privately held lands - subject matter experts in urban forestry, planning, engineering/land development, or law (one staff member per realm = four responses per municipality).

Please ensure that you have obtained prior permission from potential participants to share their contact information through this survey or forward the survey link to potential participants so they can possibly add their own contact information.

Participation in this survey and the future tree preservation incentives questionnaire is voluntary and respondents do not have to complete questions if they are uncomfortable.

The tree preservation incentives questionnaire responses will be anonymized to allow respondents to speak freely of their understanding of the use of incentives in their municipality. Since data is collected anonymously, information cannot be withdrawn once submitted.

If a recipient does not wish to complete the tree preservation incentives questionnaire, they will be encouraged to forward it to the person in the relevant position in their department.

The research data will be encrypted, stored at a UBC facility and will be retained for a minimum of 5 years after publication. The Principal Investigator will remain responsible for any retained data, confidentiality will be safeguarded subject to legal requirements, and data will be password protected and accessible only by the named researchers. All precautions will be taken to protect identifiable information and preserve anonymity of participants throughout the research project.

If the survey is completed, it will be assumed that consent has been given.

Who is Conducting this Study?

The tree preservation incentives study is being conducted as part of a Capstone Project for a graduate degree in the UBC Master of Urban Forestry Leadership Program (Ethics ID number: H22-00667).

An article may possibly be published for an academic journal or industry periodical. A digital publication may be made accessible to the public for review free of charge online, in accordance with a journal’s open access requirements.
