Everyday #ONpoli gets worst. Slash and burn. $1B Toronto Public Health. 50% Ontario public libraries. Rich developers can now pay to kill endangered species?! Time to shut him down. General strike. May 1st. #StrikeFord #StrikeON

Ford's proposal to cut $1 billion from Toronto Public Health will put lives at risk. He's doing this to pay for corporate tax cuts and handouts to the rich.

We cannot let that happen. Please take a moment to share this with your friends. With enough pressure, we can force him to back down:

Ontario Cuts Energy Efficiency, Talks Generalities on Climate in ‘Most Anti-Environment Budget Since Walkerton\

The province cut budgets for the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks by 35%, and for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry by 14%, for a combined reduction of $461 million. They also announced winding down conservation programs and the $200 million funding.

Plans to Gut Ontario’s Endangered Species Act

Developers and other proponents of harmful activities will be able to “pay-to-slay” by paying into a fund to compensate for harming species at risk and their habitats (rather than providing an on-the-ground overall benefit to species).

Only rebellion will prevent an ecological apocalypse

In Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, devastated by Cyclone Idai, in Syria, Libya and Yemen, where climate chaos has contributed to civil war, in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador,, where crop failure, drought and the collapse of fisheries have driven people from their homes, despair is not an option. Our inaction has forced them into action, as they respond to terrifying circumstances caused primarily by the rich world’s consumption. The time for excuses is over. The struggle to overthrow our life-denying system has begun.

Road to Zero Waste

Tues. April 23, 6:30 p.m.

Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre, 1499 Queen Street West

There is a worldwide epidemic of food wastage, and Canada is no exception. Every year, Canadian food waste amounts to $31 billion dollars. Not only are important resources being squandered as a result of this waste, but also it is environmentally damaging to our planet. When wasted food is thrown into landfill and begins to decompose, methane gas is released into the atmosphere, contributing directly to global warming. Road to Zero Waste is a local non-profit organization that works to address these problems by running workshops about food waste in various neighbourhoods and community spaces. Our goal is to change the way Canadians think about food waste, and to reduce food waste in Canada more quickly and efficiently.

Monthly Protest Against NATO and Day of Action Against Military Spending

Thursday, April 25, noon -1 pm

Outside the NATO Association of Canada, 60 Harbour St. (at Bay St.)

Every month this year, the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) will be holding a peace vigil outside the NATO Association of Canada headquarters in downtown Toronto at the corner of Harbour St and Bay St. Come and join us in April! This action will be in solidarity with the International Peace Bureau's Global Day of Action Against Military Spending. This year is the 70th anniversary of NATO, this male-dominated nuclear-armed military alliance and Cold War relic that threatens our security. NATO has been involved in illegal interventions in the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan and destabilizing operations in Libya, Ukraine, Latvia, and Poland, etc... NATO members are the world's largest weapons manufacturers and arms companies which include Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics, corporations which fund the NATO Association of Canada. NATO puts intense pressure on Canada every year to increase military spending, which diverts public funding away from urgent social and environmental needs. NATO relies on a dangerous nuclear arsenal and refuses to disarm. VOW is calling for the Canadian government to withdraw from NATO and work through the United Nations on disarmament and the Sustainable Development Goals to bring the world genuine human security. No to NATO; yes to peace, nonviolence and sustainability! Organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW): https://www.facebook.com/events/433515000754148/

Resisting Arrest - Protecting Yourself at Protests and Actions

Thur. April 25, 6 - 9 p.m.

OISE, 252 Bloor Street West, Room 2211, U of T

This in-case-of-arrest workshop will help folks learn to resist the fear of arrest by increasing awareness and knowledge of how it is to be arrested and face charges in the context of political work. For those who haven’t attended a standard legal workshop we’ll briefly cover our [theoretical] legal rights and common charges, but the focus will center on the experience of being arrested, navigating jail and the court system, preparing for sentencing and going to jail. We’ll also look at how we can individually and collectively prepare for arrest, what the support process can look like, and why it’s so important.
