The Income Security Advocacy Centre is seeking a

Policy Analyst & Communications Specialist (contract)  

 

The Income Security Advocacy Centre, funded by Legal Aid Ontario and located
in Toronto, engages in test case litigation, community development, public
legal education and law reform activities to address systemic income
insecurity and poverty. ISAC is seeking a dynamic, critically-thinking
person to fill a 12-month contract.

 

The Policy Analyst & Communications Specialist will:

Ř      generate analysis and research in support of the law reform,
community development and litigation goals of the clinic; 

Ř      develop and implement communications strategy, which will include
public education and media components; 

Ř       assist in the development and implementation of political strategy
related to law reform goals.

 

Qualifications:

Ř      experience in policy analysis and research in a social justice
setting with regard to income security programs (ex. OW, ODSP, EI, CPP); 

Ř      superior communication skills including the ability to communicate in
plain language; 

Ř      experience doing media work;

Ř      experience creating public education materials;

Ř      ability to interpret complex legislation and assess its impact on
low-income people; 

Ř      familiarity with computer and data-base search techniques and legal
resources;

Ř      ability to co-ordinate & engage in lobbying activities and other
policy advocacy activities;

Ř      ability to work in French would be an asset.

 

Start date is September 4, 2007.  The length of the contract is from
September 4, 2007 to Aug 31, 2008. This position is full time for the period
September 4, 2007 to March 31, 2008  and a 3.5 days per week for the period
April 1, 2008 to August 31, 2008. The salary range is up to $62,000 per
annum depending on experience and pro-rated for the part time period.
