Dealing with the Trauma of Sexual Abuse

Presented by Dr. Brenda Saxe

This workshop will examine the various aspects of trauma including:  What do we need to know?  The Victim/Survivor, Consequences/Perpetrators, Addictions, Self-injury, Parenting  Self-care  

 

Dr. Brenda Saxe, Psychologist is one of the original members of the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse & Childhood Trauma and is currently Clinical Director.  She has extensive experience working with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and dissociation. She works with adults, both male and female, as well as couples where one or both have experienced the effects of trauma on their lives. Brenda works from multiple perspectives including experiential and relational models and utilizes a wide range of treatment modalities including EMDR and Sandtray therapy. She has been a Supervisor/Trainer in the Masters of Pastoral Counselling Program at Saint Paul University for the past 12 years, teaches seminars on interpersonal psychotherapy at the University of Ottawa, and provides consultation/supervision to mental health professionals in private practice in the Ottawa-Carleton Community. She also teaches a course on "Understanding the Trauma of Sexual Abuse" in the spring session at Saint Paul University and leads workshops and training programs for counsellors and psychotherapists working with traumatized individuals throughout the region.

The workshop is free of charge; however, a small donation would be appreciated.  Please bring your lunch.

Understanding Addiction-An Aboriginal Perspective

Presented by Rod Jeffries

This workshop will examine addiction from an Aboriginal perspective.  Special attention will be focused on the circle, traditions, cultural oppression, colonization and trauma and their roles in relation to addictions.  The workshop will examine impacts on the family and the community with an experiential session on strategies to deal with addictions.

Rod Jeffries is a Mohawk, First Nation person residing in the Tyendinaga Mohawk in Ontario.  For the past 20 years he has worked in the fields of substaqnce abuse, healing and wellness and treatment.  Rod is an international speaker/trainer having presented in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe.

The workshop is free of charge; however, a small donation would be appreciated.  Please bring your lunch.
