Subject: Information Event - October 10th - The Charities File

We would like to invite you to attend an information session on The
Charities File, a pan-Canadian project funded by the Canada Revenue Agency,
administered by the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development in
partnership with the Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks. The
purpose of The Charities File is to increase the awareness and capacity of
registered charities to file complete and accurate T3010As (Registered
Charities Information Returns) on time.

Did you know that last year, more than 2,780 charities had their charitable
status revoked? Many charities also filed returns that contained errors
that would not reflect well on the charity’s public image. Given the
increasing attention being paid to issues of accountability and transparency
among charities, we are committed to building on the strengths in the sector
and helping to preserve the high public trust we enjoy.

The Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency has increased its
level of support and education to charities and through this project The
Charities File we have developed two training modules being offered to
charities:

1. Ten Practices to Manage your Charitable Status: An overview of the
key administrative practices and systems needed to comply with the charity’s
obligations under the Canada Income Tax Act

2. Training and Resources to Complete the T3010A: A step-by-step
introduction to completing the Registered Charity’s Information Return
Package

To date, we have developed accessible learning materials in English and
French, offered more than 25 workshops (free of charge) in local communities
across the country, developed a range of e-learning tools, and created a
web-based resource centre. Our trainers are also available to present at
your own workshops, meetings and conferences.

We would like to invite you to a summary of the two training modules and the
material available through The Charities File. Please note this will not be
a full training module (as listed above) on how to complete the T3010a,
rather it is our hope by giving an overview of the material available
through our Project it will be helpful to your charitable organization.
