When Finance Minister Dwight Duncan delivers his provincial budget a week
today, people depending on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) are
hoping for more than the just over $900 a month maximum the program offers.

Most receive even less - around $500. Many people living on the streets have
physical disabilities, notes Marcia Rioux, head of York University's school
of critical disability studies. "Affordable housing is a big issue in
Ontario."

There needs to be action on the national front, too, argues Keith Powell,
head of Community Living Ontario.

"The federal government needs to ... assume more responsibility for adequate
income support."
