[This is a group message to 1,000+ people and several listserves.]

The National Anti-Poverty Organization encourages widespread Canadian
support of the First Nations' National Day of Action, to be held this
Thursday (May 29th). Organized by the Assembly of First Nations (
http://www.afn.ca/), "the National Day of Action is an opportunity for First
Nations and Canadians to stand together in a spirit of unity to support a
better life for all First Nations peoples. We are calling on the Government
of Canada to work with First Nations to protect our children, invest in our
future and respect our responsibility to one another. Let us stand together
to put an end to First Nations poverty as the greatest social injustice in
Canada."

· For a poster on what will take place in Ottawa on May 29, click
here: http://www.afn.ca/misc/nda-poster.pdf. Note that the Day begins with
speakers and entertainment at 10:00am at Victoria Island, traditional land
of the Algonquin nation, and continues with a march from the island,
beginning at noon, to Parliament Hill for a peaceful rally at 1:00pm,
including an address by Phil Fontaine, National Chief of the Assembly of
First Nations.

For any NAPO supporters and colleagues that would like to join us for the
march to Parliament Hill, look for the large NAPO banner around 11:45am. We
will be stationed near the road entrance to Victoria Island at that time.

NAPO wishes the Assembly of First Nations success with an effective staging
of the National Day of Action – effective in raising awareness and inspiring
action to address First Nations poverty and other social injustices.

Everybody should be guaranteed a decent basic income. A rich country...can
well afford to keep everybody out of poverty.
