Subject: Housing Network of Ontario: Spotlight on southwest Ontario's
housing issues

Southwestern Ontario gets a turn to share their housing stories this week,
as the provincial consultation touches down in Windsor on Wednesday, July
15, and in Kitchener on July 16. Housing Network of Ontario members and
supporters in both cities will be sharing their local housing solutions at
the consultations and underscoring the need for a fully integrated, fully
funded long term affordable housing strategy that addresses four priorities:
making housing costs affordable to tenants on living on low incomes,
adequate supply of affordable housing that is in good repair, supports and
protections for tenants to maintain and equitably access affordable housing,
and a clear way to measure progress to ensure that all Ontarians in need
benefit.

In Toronto, local Housing Network partners are gathering on Thursday, July
16 to hear from experts with lived experience and to discuss Toronto’s
housing needs and the solutions that we will be calling for when the
consultations touch down in Scarborough and Toronto on July 21 and 22nd.

New materials have been created by Housing Network of Ontario member
organizations to highlight two important issues: Please find attached a
leaflet on a housing benefit to make existing rental housing more affordable
to tenants, to which you can print and distribute to your networks. As
well, a two page leaflet is attached which addresses inclusionary housing
policies, which have the potential to create affordable homes in all new
neighbourhoods. Both of these documents can be found on the Housing Network
of Ontario website here
<http://www.stableandaffordable.com/content/helpful-resources>

The Housing Network of Ontario has created an on-line hub here
<http://stableandaffordable.com/> that is regularly being updated with the
latest news, reports from community meetings, tips for actions and plenty of
other resources. More than 350 people and groups have endorsed the Housing
Network of Ontario’s on-line declaration: “We believe everyone in Ontario
has the right to live poverty-free and with dignity in housing that is
stable, adequate, equitably accessible and affordable… Read the full
declaration and add your endorsement here
<http://stableandaffordable.com/content/our-declaration> . Also on the HNO
web site: You can tell

housing story; find plenty of helpful

happening in your community and find out what is happening in other places;
