Subject: New phone number for Ottawa housing consultation registrations...

Dear Lynne:

Please note that Brian Teefy, from the office of Ontario housing minister
Jim Watson, has sent a new registration number for people to use for the
Ottawa session - 613-721-8075 (see the e-mail exchange below based on your
note to me). Please feel free to distribute this number far and wide, and
please let me know what response people get when they try to register for
Ottawa.

Thanks.

- Michael

consultation session!

Michael,

We had a bulk of registrations over the last couple of days.

The Minister's constituency office is currently tracking names of people
that have been calling of late.

For the immediate future please direct people to call 613-721-8075.

We are extremely busy today as you can imagine.

Will get back to you with more information soon.

Thanks,

Brian

Subject: People are being turned away from the Ottawa housing consultation
session!

Dear Brian and Kathleen:

We have been very concerned to learn that the on-line registration process
for the Ottawa consultation leads to a message that says:

"The Ottawa consultation session is now full.
Thank you for your interest. You may contribute your ideas online via the
consultation questionnaire page <http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Page6405.aspx> or
register for one of our other sessions."

I specifically recall that when the question was asked of the Minister
during the initial briefing session about registration, he assured us that
the registration was only to determine numbers to assist in the planning,
and that no one would be turned away. We have received several messages
already from our partners in Ottawa reporting that people are being turned
away, and that the telephone line is not providing assistance.

It is a major concern that the Ontario government has launched a
consultation process and that people in the second largest city in the
province - a city that is the home to the Minister and to the Premier, and
which also has significant housing issues and important housing solutions -
are being turned away.

Please let me know about your plans regarding this situation so that we can
immediately communicate to our Ottawa partners.

Thanks.

- Michael
