Please see below for two important sessions for affordable housing in
Ottawa. Also note that dates are tentative, to be confirmed soon.  The city
is asking people to hold the date if they are interested. Members of the
public, including representatives of your organization, are welcome to
attend the meeting.  However they would appreciate an RSVP to help them

City Council requested a report from staff on inclusionary housing for
Council consideration, including any necessary legislative changes. City
staff has prepared a report to be presented to Council in November.  

Inclusionary planning involves using provincially authorized municipal
powers to expect the inclusion of affordable housing in new private
developments, generally in exchange for cost offsets to ensure it is
economically feasible.  Ontario law allows such expectations in limited
circumstances.  

The report to Council will discuss what is possible now and how the province
could change Ontario law to enhance municipal authority to create an
inclusionary housing policy.  You are invited to hear the ideas that will be
discussed in the report and to provide feedback before the report is
finalized for Council’s review.

The above date is tentative, to be confirmed soon.  Please hold the date if
you are interested.

Le Conseil municipal a demandé au personnel de produire un rapport sur le
logement inclusif, y compris sur les modifications législatives qui
pourraient s'avérer nécessaires dans ce domaine. Le personnel municipal a
rédigé un rapport qui sera soumis à l'examen du Conseil en novembre.

La planification du logement inclusif repose sur l'exercice de pouvoirs
municipaux accordés par la Province pour exiger l'inclusion de logements
abordables dans les nouveaux projets privés d'aménagement domiciliaire,
généralement en échange d'une réduction des coûts afin d'en assurer la
faisabilité économique. La loi ontarienne permet d'imposer de telles
exigences dans certaines circonstances restreintes.

Le rapport au Conseil portera sur ce qu'il est actuellement possible de
faire et sur les modifications législatives que la Province pourrait
apporter afin de renforcer le pouvoir des municipalités d'établir une
politique de logement d'inclusion. Vous êtes invités à prendre connaissance
des idées qui seront discutées dans le rapport et à faire part de vos
observations avant la rédaction de la version définitive qui sera présentée
au Conseil.

La date indiquée ci-dessus reste à confirmer. Veuillez néanmoins en prendre
note si vous êtes intéressés.
