Hi Folks,

At the regular Council meeting which happened on January 27th in the middle
of the Budget deliberations, a Wilkinson/El-Chantiry motion was passed to
hold a Financial Sustainability Summit during 2010. This could be a very
interesting process. I have copied the motion below as well as attached it.

I have also attached 3 Notices of Motion from the same Council meeting that
relate to OCTranspo that may interest some of you. A notice of motion is
given at a council meeting for an item that a councillor wants to bring
before council directly rather than taking it through the committee process.

Moved by Councillor M. Wilkinson

Seconded by Councillor E. El-Chantiry

WHEREAS the City of Ottawa will be preparing a revised Long Range Financial
Plan over the next year; and

WHEREAS it is prudent to involve the public early on in the preparation of
the plan to ensure that all ideas and suggestions are considered; and

WHEREAS the City of Ottawa has amended the budget development process and
established an Audit, Finance and Budget Committee to provide more focus on
financial issues; and

WHEREAS supporting a gathering where ideas on how to balance services
considering the financial resources of the City as well as the concerns of
both taxpayers and those requiring services;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Ottawa host a Financial
Sustainability Summit in 2010 to gather input pending review of the Long
Range Financial Plan and future budget process from the public; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an ad-hoc committee composed of Councillor
Wilkinson, Councillor El-Chantiry and Councillor Chiarelli and Finance and
Communications staff develop the format for the meeting, a communications
plan and the set date;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the cost of the summit be funded from existing
budgets.
