Hi there,
Please forgive me for the impersonal email but I had to tell as many family, friends and business associates that I am undertaking a fairly big challenge next month and I could sure use your support. I am literally carrying a hammer on my bike to Ottawa from Waterloo expecting to present this ceremonial hammer to the Minister of Housing. The presentation is to express appreciation for the governments support for Affordable Housing across Canada but more importantly to challenge the government to do more. The “Hammer” is a symbol of Hope that anyone can offer someone in need of shelter here at home or around the globe.
Low income Canadian families often struggle to find healthy, safe, and affordable shelter. This challenge is compounded by “energy poverty” issues where rising utility costs force difficult decisions when there is not enough income to pay bills and put food on the table. Habitat for Humanity is committed to addressing energy poverty by building homes to a recognized level of energy efficiency and environmentally responsible construction. This commitment however comes with an added capital cost but at the same time is an investment in people’s lives providing real HOPE to those less fortunate.
The Hammer of Hope Ride is a fund raising initiative to raise needed funding to support Habitat for Humanity’s Sustainable Building efforts. At the same time 10% of total funds raised will go to support Habitat’s rebuilding efforts in Haiti.
I am personally committing to riding 550 KM in four days between Waterloo and Ottawa following the #7 provincial highway, April 24 – 27, 2010. I hope to have other riders join me along the way in an effort to expand this fund raising campaign.
There are a number of ways you can learn more about the Hammer of Hope Ride, donate what you can or just follow the progress of the Hammer of Hope Ride. Please check out the following links and share them with your family and friends:
