The 100-mile diet is often proposed as a solution to the current food crisis and its related environmental impacts. If a local diet is the answer, then what are the existing barriers limiting food production in the city? Can organic produce be made accessible to all urbanites regardless of income levels and/or degree of autonomy?
Using Santropol Roulant's Edible Campus Garden and weekly Fresh Basket as examples, this conversation will explore the possibility of growing accessible organic food in the city in tandem with rural farmers and not merely on a separate track.

Tim Murphy is the Director of Sustainability at Santropol Roulant (SR) and Coordinator of the Edible Campus Garden. Santropol Roulant's Edible Campus garden is run in partnership with Alternatives' Rooftop Garden Project and the McGill School of Architecture's Minimum Cost Housing Group.The Edible Campus Garden grows mostly vegetables in over 225 containers, using a self-watering technique

L’alimentation de proximité est souvent proposée comme solution à la crise éco-alimentaire actuelle. Dans cette perspective, quels sont les obstacles à l’agriculture en milieu urbain? Est-il possible de produire des légumes biologiques accessibles à tous les citadins, quel que soit leur revenu ou leur capacité?
Prenant pour exemple Santropol Roulant avec son jardin biologique urbain et son programme de paniers frais, nous nous demanderons s’il est possible de cultiver des aliments biologiques dans la ville dans une optique de collaborationavec la production rurale.
Invité :
Tim Muphy est directeur du développement durable à Santropol Roulant et coordonnateur de son jardin biologique urbain. Ce jardin est géré en partenariat avec le projet Jardins sur les toits d’Alternatives et du Groupe pour le logement à prix minimal de la Faculté d’architecture de l’Université McGill. On y cultive surtout des légumes dans plus de 225 bacs auto-arrosants.
Modératrice: Ardente défenseur de la créativité et de la satisfaction engendrée par soi, Isabelle Abdel-Sayed travaille à engendrer le changement grâce à l’autotransformation par le coaching.
