The Ontario government is back in session September 13th, and the
Housing Network of Ontario is urging everyone concerned about the lack
of truly affordable housing to press the issue with your MPP.

The Liberal government has failed to meet its own deadline of spring
2010 for the release of the long-term affordable housing strategy and
has said it will be released this fall. In August a new Minister of
Municipal Affairs and Housing was appointed, placing Rick Bartolucci in
the position that has been held by two others in the past year.

It's crucial that our new Minister of Housing, Premier McGuinty and all
MPPs hear from Ontarians that a housing plan that helps reduce poverty
and strengthen our economy is long overdue.

What can you do?

*       Email or call your MPP;

            Find your MPP contact info at:
http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/members/member_addresses.do?AddType=CONT&loca
le=en

* Say they need to renew & strengthen their commitment to poverty
reduction by bringing in a fully funded, comprehensive affordable
housing strategy with:

- Annual funding to build 10,000 affordable homes/yr and for
ongoing maintenance;

- A new Housing Benefit to close the gap between high rents and
low-incomes;

-         A plan that works for marginalized communities;

- Legislative changes to better protect tenants & to promote
affordable housing;

- Accountability from government to meet their promises.

Visit www.stableandaffordable.com <http://www.stableandaffordable.com/>
for more information about the Housing Network of Ontario's '5 Tests for
Success' for a long-term affordable housing strategy.

Ask your MPP if they support a housing strategy that passes the HNO's 5
Tests.
