Smart Technologies in Affordable Seniors Housing

There is increasing market demand and potential for housing equipped
with innovative, smart technologies aimed at keeping older adults in
their homes for longer periods. This study tested the use of one such
technology: a "smart voice" fridge sensor that provides an audible cue
to the home occupant when the fridge door is left open and a warning
signal to care providers monitoring home activity when the fridge
remains open or closed for extended periods of time.

Long-term Household Projections - 2011 Update

This Research Highlight presents an update of the projections of
household growth for Canada reported in the 2009 Canadian Housing
Observer. As in the 2009 projections, the current set span the period
2007 to 2036 and include projections of households by age-group,
household type, dwelling type and tenure. While the previously-published
projections were limited to Canada, the present ones include projections
for the provinces and the territories. Due in part to the rising average
age of the Canadian population, households comprised of one person are
projected to become the single biggest category of households, followed
by couple-only households.
