FYI . . . a note about an interfaith forum on faith and poverty sent in
by Tony Martin that may be of interest to faith leaders in Ottawa.

We wanted to draw to your attention this national faith focused forum
rooted in the moral imperative to do something about poverty. The
various sponsors are looking for people who will initiate or carry on
the conversation in their communities when they go back home. You may
have some connection to a faith community or know a faith leader to
forward this too. Much appreciated. Tony

INVITATION TO THE INTERFAITH FORUM ON FAITH AND POVERTY

March 7, 8, 2011

Dear Faith Leaders,

The 2010 Interfaith Partnership, The Canadian Council of
Churches (CCC), The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) and the
Dignity for All Campaign invite you to participate in an Interfaith
Forum on Faith and Poverty.

Through word, work, and worship, Canadian faith communities have sought
to address poverty in Canada. Recently a House of Commons Committee
released a report on domestic poverty that received the endorsement of
all members of the committee. The report was comprehensive in scope and
deserves broad consideration by various segments of society, including
the faith communities. Join us Monday, March 7 at St. Andrews Church to
hear keynote speaker Greg Paul, Executive Director of Sanctuary
Ministries of Toronto, and author of God in the Alley and The Twenty
Piece Shuffle: Why the Rich and the Poor Need Each Other. This evening
will highlight both the need to launch a national conversation on
poverty elimination, and the need for a national strategy that will
allow all sectors to work together in a coordinated way to effect the
greatest change.

The conversation will continue Tuesday at an all-day forum on the
intersection of faith and the call to act on poverty. Participants will
have the opportunity to hear from Faith Leaders and representatives as
they reflect on the theme of poverty from their respective faith
traditions. We will also hear from Members of Parliament from all
parties who were involved in the creation of the report Federal Poverty
Reduction Plan: Working in Cooperation to Reduce Poverty in Canada, who
will reflect on the role of the state in addressing poverty.
