Hi folks,

There is a possibility of a mail strike next week.

While the CUPW will deliver federal cheques, such as Old Age Security, Canada Pension Plan and Child Benefits, municipal and provincial benefits including social assistance cheques won't be delivered. This would include Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Plan as well as Essential Health and Social Supports.

While many people receive these benefits through direct deposit and local offices are making arrangements to have people come and pick up their cheques in person, it is bound to be chaotic. In addition, there will be people who will have difficulty getting to the office. It is the end of the month and folks will not necessarily have bus fare or be able to physically get there. The wait time could be very long and some parents will have to bring their children with them or may not be able to go because school buses have to be met.

I don't know if Employment Insurance cheques will be delivered or not.

Linda.
