FYI, please read the attached lobbyist information and consider whether or not you or your organization would like to appear before one of the committee meetings on Dec 1st or 6th before it goes to City Council on Dec. 14th.

Subject: proposed Lobbyist Registry

Hello/Bonjour

I write to you as an individual or a community partner of CAWI with whom we have worked to promote civic engagement of the diversity of residents in Ottawa. I write to draw you attention to the proposed Lobbyist Registry that is to be considered at the sub-committee on Governance Renewal of FEDCO (Finance and Economic Development Committee) on Thursday, December 1st, 9:30 AM.

I attach here a link to the registry posted on the City web-site and also an article on Ottawa's proposed registry that recently appeared in a legal newsletter. We invite you to read these documents to consider the impact this would have on engaging women and men in your respective organization in city decision making. You will likely see some positive aspects as it is a move toward greater transparency, but may share some of our concerns about how it could limit meaningful civic engagement.

CAWI will be presenting a deputation on December 1st. You may consider doing so as well, or informing your Councillor of your views before it goes to full committee of FEDCO on December 6th, then full Council.

Let's help City Council make this step toward transparency as positive as possible.

Best
