Fund Development and Community Engagement Officer
Bruce House is a community-based organization with a 23-year history of
providing housing, compassionate care and support for people in Ottawa
living with HIV/AIDS.
Bruce House is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fund Development
and Community Engagement Officer. Reporting to the Executive Director, this
key position is responsible for ensuring our current and future fundraising
objectives are achieved. The Fund Development and Community Engagement
Officer will develop strategies and provide leadership to sustain the
long-term financial stability of Bruce House, in alignment with the
organizations overall objectives, mission and strategic directions.
We are looking for a professional with demonstrated experience in fund
development and community engagement activities, including proposal writing,
major gift solicitation, special events management, corporate sponsorship,
e-philanthropy, planned giving, direct mail, community development and
cause-related marketing. The ideal candidate should have CFRE certification
and membership in the AFP or equivalent experience.
Key Program Development and Program Delivery Responsibilities
· Develop, coordinate, manage and evaluate long-term and annual fund
development plans to identify priorities for both short-term and long-term
development activities.
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective and current
donors from all sectors including government, corporations, foundations,
groups, clubs and individuals.
· Develop and implement corporate and institutional fund-raising
strategies, including prospect research, business plans, drafting proposals,
and developing briefing documents and information kits.
· Develop strategies for approaching selected foundations and
granting institutions to achieve revenue targets.
· Develop and implement promotional strategies for planned giving,
including materials such as brochures, flyers and public service
advertisements.
· Develop, design and implement direct mail campaigns.
· Identify and expand community and corporate partnerships to secure
new donors and funding partners.
· Seek out opportunities to promote the Bruce House mission, programs
and services.
· Encourage and assist external groups such as churches, schools,
clubs, corporations, businesses and individuals to raise funds for or
volunteer with Bruce House.
· Encourage, cultivate and oversee the coordination of third party
events and other community engagement activities.
· Develop and manage a donor recognition program.
Organization and Administrative Responsibilities
· Participate in the development and implementation of agency
strategic plans, goals and objectives.
· Participate in and provide staff support to the agencys
fundraising and communication committees.
· Liaise and collaborate with administrative staff to ensure the
fundraising database is up to date and charitable income tax receipts are
prepared and issued in accordance with CRAs regulations.
· Develop and maintain a records management system, including the
preparation of statistical and program reports on fundraising activities and
the entry of statistical data to a case management program.
· Assist with media and community relations as required.
· Act as the main staff liaison for the agencys fundraising
committee and event-specific steering committees.
· Be thoroughly familiar with and ensure adherence to pertinent
legislation, regulations, contracts, guidelines, and the Bruce House
mission, policies, procedures and plans.
· Assist in drafting the development and community relations budget.
· Network with other service providers and professionals.
· Be familiar and ensure compliance with all health and safety
policies and procedures.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
· CFRE Certification and/or commensurate experience (minimum of three
years experience in a senior fundraising position).
· Membership in the AFP would be an asset.
· Demonstrated fundraising success across a number of fundraising
programs.
· Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
and work under pressure.
· Demonstrated experience in community-based, social service
environments.
· Demonstrated experience in working with diverse communities.
· Demonstrated understanding of community resources and the ability
to manage resources effectively.
· Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the social and political issues
surrounding HIV/AIDS is desired.
· Familiarity with Income Manager or other relational database
software.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other publishing software
programs.
· Excellent verbal and written skills in English are required.
· Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
· Committed to uphold the organizations mission, values and
standards.
Other Terms and Working Conditions
· Workplace Location: Primarily at main administrative office, but
may be required to work in various venues.
· Hours of Work: Full time, 36 hours weekly. Primarily Monday to
Friday, daytime hours, with some evening and weekend work as required.
· Employment is conditional upon maintaining a valid drivers license
and having access to an automobile.
· Employment is conditional upon an acceptable police criminal
records check.
Salary and Compensation
The salary range for this position is $47,500 to $55,000 per annum, with a
comprehensive benefits package after three months of employment.
