The 6th Ottawa Tenants Conference will be held at City Hall at 110
Laurier Avenue West. It is open to tenants who live on the private
market or reside in social rental housing.  Along with workshops and
speakers, there will be legal services available throughout the day to
assist tenants with their specific problems, while the workshops
provide an opportunity for smaller group discussions and networking.
Workshop themes include Maintenance, Public Health, Social Housing,
and a Francophone overview.

This year’s guest speaker is Chantal Tie, a representative from the
Human Rights Legal Support Centre which is an independent agency,
funded by the Government of Ontario, to provide legal services to
individuals who have experienced discrimination. The Centre provides
legal assistance to individuals in taking an application to the Human
Rights Tribunal of Ontario to resolve a human rights dispute.

The Tenant Champion Awards will acknowledge tenants who have survived
and maintained their housing against unscrupulous landlords, organized
other tenants in their community, and have been an inspiration to
other tenants and the community.

This year also introduces the Wheel of Justice, an interactive game to
educate tenants about their rights and responsibilities around the
Residential Tenancies Act.

Admission is free and lunch is provided. Bus tickets and a limited
number of daycare subsidies are also available on a first come, first
served basis.
