2013 OMSSA Awards and Recognition Program 

Call for Nominations 

Nominations deadline is January 29!

OMSSA is once again celebrating the progress made in investing in people by
seeking nominations for our annual Awards and Recognition Program. OMSSA
Awards celebrate individuals and organizations who have made outstanding
contributions to both OMSSA and their communities, recognizing their
commitment to plan, manage and delivery quality human services in Ontario. 

Awards will be presented during the OMSSA Learning Symposium
<http://www.omssa.com/singlepage.asp?itemcode=2013-LS>  in Ottawa (June
16th-19th, 2013).

These annual awards recognize the best practices and exceptional results
accomplished by our members and human service practitioners. They celebrate
extraordinary leadership, engagement and innovative approaches to human
services across Ontario.  

Nominations are open from November 15th, 2012 to January 29th, 2013.

All eligible nominations received will be reviewed by OMSSA’s Awards and
Recognition Committee who will recommend the recipients to OMSSA’s Board of
Directors for confirmation.  Nominations may be submitted under the
following award categories:  

1.      Lifetime Achievement 

Purpose:  To recognize the long-standing contribution of exceptional OMSSA
members who have recently retired or who plan on retiring in the year in
which the award is given. 

 Process:  Any OMSSA member can nominate another individual, including
themselves. Nominators will fill out a nomination form

specific details about the nominee (role, achievements, length of time
employed in human services).  This form also includes a section for a brief
written submission explaining why the nominee should be considered.
Submissions can be made directly to the Awards and Recognition Committee at

 Recognition: Recipients will be announced at the Annual Conference in June,
and added to a “Hall of Fame” of OMSSA members. 

 2.      Local Municipal Champions

Purpose:  To recognize the great work done by teams from amongst CMSM and
DSSAB staff across the province.  Teams may include partners from community
organizations and/or initiatives working together with a CMSM or DSSAB.

Process: This is a peer-to-peer recognition award that recognizes all best
practices. Members are encouraged to submit nominees or nominate their own
team in the form of a case study, to help make submissions consistent.

Recognition: Poster presentations developed by recipients will be displayed
at the 2013 Symposium to allow delegates to browse and engage with the award
recipients. Those being recognized will also be listed in the conference
program and highlighted on the OMSSA website.  

In addition, there are two award categories based on the discretion and
nomination by the OMSSA Board of Directors:

Champion of Human Services

Purpose:  This award recognizes a champion who has displayed extraordinary
leadership and made an exceptional contribution to human services. 

Process:  The recipient of this award is decided by the OMSSA Board of
Directors. 

Eligibility criteria include:

§  A proven and respected track record of achievement in human services

§  Someone who is recognized as a thought leader in human services

§  Someone whose work has been provincially or nationally significant

§  Someone who will help strengthen or broaden external relationships with
other organizations 

§  Someone who will be inspirational and motivational to OMSSA members

Recognition: The recipient will be honored at the Annual Conference in June.

Patti Moore Human Services Integration Award 

Purpose:  This award recognizes an OMSSA member or Staff member who has
displayed extraordinary leadership and made an exceptional contribution to
human services. 

Process:  The recipient of this award is decided by the OMSSA Board of
Directors. 

Recognition: The recipient will be honored at the Annual Conference in June.
